Skills, Research Focus, and Publications of Mitchell Higashi

Mitchell Higashi is a nationally recognized expert in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), with expertise spanning real-world evidence, precision medicine, health technology assessment (HTA), and artificial intelligence in healthcare. He currently serves as Associate Chief Science Officer at ISPOR, where he leads scientific initiatives to advance the Society’s mission of improving healthcare decision-making globally through rigorous research.

At ISPOR (December 2023–present), Mr. Higashi oversees conference content, Special Interest Groups, HTA Roundtables, health policy working groups, and related publications. He co-chaired the ISPOR 2023 Annual Meeting and organized a major plenary panel on AI in healthcare featuring leaders from the FDA, IBM, Google Health, and MIT, drawing an audience of approximately 2,000 attendees.

His work focuses on evaluating the value of pharmaceuticals and medical technologies, with emphasis on rare diseases, gene and CAR-T therapies, regulatory decision-making, and real-world data integration. Mr. Higashi has authored dozens of peer-reviewed publications in journals including JAMA, Value in Health, and Pharmacoeconomics, covering cost-effectiveness, pharmacogenomics, and healthcare system modeling.

He is also a frequent speaker at global conferences, contributing to the advancement of evidence-based healthcare innovation through ISPOR and beyond.
