In 2023, Mitchell Higashi, PhD, accepted the position of associate chief science officer with the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). He manages the content of the organization’s conferences and oversees the work of its roundtables, policy groups, and research publications. Mitchell Higashi also works with his fellow members of the ISPOR leadership team to focus on collaborative projects among members, staff, and other stakeholders to increase understanding of health economics and outcomes research, or HEOR.
Mitchell Higashi graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in biotechnology. He went on to earn his doctorate in health economics and outcomes research at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School.
In an early professional position, he worked with GE Healthcare in Chicago as chief economist. After 10 years with GE Healthcare, he accepted a position as vice president for HEOR in Bristol-Myers Squibb’s New Jersey offices.
Mitchell Higashi’s professional publications include a dissertation on precision medicine, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, and a co-authored paper on the use of real-world evidence (RWE) in the regulation of oncology, published under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health.
